8 Life Style Tips – Beat Aging

Jumat, 11 November 2011

Getting older doesn't only mean saggy skin and graying hair and aching bones. You are also more susceptible to diseases like cancer and heart disease as you begin to get older. This means that you will have to start living a different type of life, and the 8 tips in this article can help you along the way. 1. With aging, our bones tends to decrease in size and they lose density. This causes your bones to weaken which makes them more apt to fracture easily. Because of these two changes to the bone tissue, people tend to become shorter in stature as they age. To combat these changes in your bones, include plenty of vitamin D and calcium in your diet. You can build bone density by doing weight-bearing activities such as walking. 2. Just because you are taking a good multivitamin everyday does not mean that you do not have to eat a healthy diet. Be sure to take the time to learn what foods provide your body with what nutrients and balance your diet accordingly. This will keep you healthy far longer than just using the vitamins. 3. Get a tea break into your daily routine. Teas have some fabulous benefits when it comes to age prevention. They are chock full of healthy antioxidants and other cancer-battling ingredients. Plus the break itself can be an amazing stress reliever in its own right. Tea breaks are one of the healthiest habits you can form! 4. You need to make sure your eyes have adequate protection as you age. The eye ages along with every other part of your body. Protect your eyes against ultraviolet radiation by wearing sunglasses with a high UV rating every time you leave the house. Regular drugstore sunglasses are acceptable only if they contain a high UV rating. 5. Focus on the things you can do and the things you like to do. Aging can be frustrating because you begin to be unable to do the things that you once did. That can't be changed, but your attitude can. Keep your focus on the things you are still able to do and then do them! 6. Everyone says it is good to remain active in your old age. This is true. It is also true that this is the right time to step back and contemplate life. What was truly valuable? What was a waste of time? What would you advise your grandchildren to do? 7. Sexual health is important for leading a long life and reducing the effects of aging. A healthy sex life contributes to overall health by reducing stress and releasing hormones in the body. It also leads to better mental health and causes a general sense of well-being for an improved quality of life. 8. As you age, start increasing your intake of raw fruits, seeds, grains, nuts and vegetables. Eat a well balanced diet and be sure to include raw broccoli, cauliflower, soybeans (edamame) and cabbage in your diet. Limit your red meat consumption and try to eat more fish. Raw foods will help your digestion and nutrient absorption. You may not have to make any drastic changes. Most of what you read here are minor and common-sense changes that you should be making, not complete life overhauls. However, the tips may be simple to implement, but it's also vital that you follow them. Follow this advice so you can age well. Whey Protein, Worth It?

Senin, 26 September 2011

Whey protein is naturally found and extracted from milk. The protein in milk is divided into 80% casein protein and 20% whey protein. Casein is a very slow acting protein and whey is fast acting. In 1 litre of milk is approximately 30 grams of protein, and so 6 grams would come in the form of whey - which is a very little amount. For this reason it's extracted into powder form. On average one scoop can give you 20-25 grams of whey, which is a more desirable choice than drinking 4 litres of milk! So the question is, why do we need whey? Whey protein is the second best protein on the planet, behind eggs. What decides the best protein is determined by its biological availability. Which means how much of the protein can be absorbed and utilised by the body. Because whey is the fastest acting protein, it is particuarly essential at two times in the day. One is first thing in the morning, as you are in a starvation state (having been sleeping for several hours) and your muscles will be craving protein in order to be in an anabolic (muscle building) state. The quicker the protein is absorbed, the more anabolic you will become, making whey perfect due to its rapid absorption rate. The other occassion when whey is essential is straight after your workout. Protein after a workout is what starts the rebuilding process. Also after a workout cortisol (stress) levels are particuarly high, which isn't an ideal environment inside the body to build muscle. Whey has proven to dramatically decrease cortisol levels, swaying your body into a more anabolic state. Also if you are out of the house or haven't got time to make a meal, then whey can be a great meal replacement. Doing so will keep your metabolism elevated and your body in a positive nitrogen balance, rather than missing a meal and letting cortisol levels rise. Whey protein also contains amino acids and glutamine which can stimulate increased protein synthesis and help speed up your recovery after a workout, meaning you can hit the gym sooner without the dilemma of overtraining. Glutamine has also shown to increase GH (growth hormone) levels after a workout. GH is responsible for building lean muscle tissue and burning fat - identical properties to testosterone/steroids. source: http://www.articlesbase.com/supplements-and-vitamins-articles/whey-protein-worth-it-5236433.html#ixzz1Z2uOQt5f

Casein Protein, What Is It?

0 komentar
Casein protein is naturally found in milk, along with whey protein. The total protein in milk consists of 80% casein and 20% whey. Whey is a fast acting protein and casein is a very slow acting protein, which can take up to 6 hours plus to absorb fully. By extracting casein from milk, you get the goodness of the casein without the saturated fat, puss cells etc that milk unfortunately contains. So the question is, why do we need casein or a very slow absorbing protein? It is beneficial to take casein at two particular times in the day. One time is before sleep. Just think, when you are sleeping you are going without food/protein for several hours. When this happens the stress hormone (cortisol) dramatically increases. This is a problem as cortisol causes the body to burn muscle for energy and store fat. Thus, by taking casein before bedtime it will keep you in a muscle building state throughout the night because it takes 6 hours to be absorbed, meaning cortisol levels will be kept as low as possible. When fats are mixed with protein it takes the protein even longer to be absorbed. Meaning in your bedtime meal it would be even more beneficial to consume some healthy fats such as flax seed/olive oil/mayonnaise/fish oil. The second instance where casein turns the body anabolic (muscle building) is when casein is taken postworkout. Many bodybuilders make the mistake of merely having whey protein post workout, where in fact, studies have shown that when casein is mixed WITH whey it promotes a significant increase in protein synthesis and muscle gain. Casein is also great to have around if you have to go a long time without a meal, as it's anti-catabolic properties are the best of all the proteins on the planet. Meaning it will prevent muscle breakdown in this period, due to its high content of amino acids and glutamine. Casein is also a good source of calcium, important for keeping strong and healthy bones. Without casein protein, your gains will be limited. source : http://www.articlesbase.com/supplements-and-vitamins-articles/casein-protein-what-is-it-5236447.html#ixzz1Z2sBMBLL

Who would like to grow old? Who would wish to appear old? If only someone knew the hidden key to the fountain of anti-aging, that someone would have wealth beyond imagination. Prevention the natural way There are naturally natural strategies you can do to help forestall ageing. One being the clichd combo of eating sensibly and exercise. However regularly you wince at hearing this guidance won't change the indisputable fact that these 2 are the first things that will help you save those skins from flagging. Eating fruit and vegetables particularly the ones that are loaded in Vitamin C and D will provide help in keeping the skin pliant and moisturised. Foods with anti oxidants are also beneficial as this without delay inhibits oxidization. Activity, alternatively, helps by firming up the muscles and keeping blood flow going. This indicates that nutrient elements and minerals are distributed across the body. With the thousands of skin care products clogging the market, choosing one that is appropriate for you can be mighty frustrating. With different ingredients and formulas, one can never know for sure what kind of product your skin longs for. Although one can never really know for sure unless you try the products yourself, one of the things that can narrow down the search for the perfect skin care product is the skin care type. The skin care type refers to the kind of skin that you are born with. And this isn't a gross exaggeration. Any business, product that deals with contra-aging is bound to succeed. Actually one of the speediest growing industry in the country today is the cosmetic industry which partially deals with helping folk stay young and look young thru enhancement, face lifts and surgeries. Folks are so prepared to spend their precious cash on these procedures, something they wouldn't have done on any other sort of processes. Maybe , one can't blame these folks from desiring to look young. With society's accent on beauty and youth, more folks are associating success and the contented life with a pliable young skin. Besides, ladies are prettier are likely to go up the company ladder. Reasons for ageing But regardless of all which has been discovered to help curtail growing older, no process or product has ever been demonstrated that is really capable of absolutely stopping the process of aging. This isn't achievable. The one thing that most procedures can do is to decelerate the method or reduce the detectable signs of getting older. The ageing of the skin is essentially due to high exposure to the sun as well as the loss of hormones like testosterone and estrogen. These 2 processes lead straight to the oxidization of collagen and the elastin fibers of the skin. The loss of these 2 substances in the skin will result to indents on the skin and obviously the flagging. source: http://www.articlesbase.com/anti-aging-articles/anti-aging-skin-treatment-what-you-really-should-know-5188430.html#ixzz1YByrCAwh

Modern norms suggest that you cannot live on enhancing your personality alone—your looks must match your traits. Whether it is for a TV commercial or a simple chat with acquaintances, physical appearance is a must. It does not necessarily mean that your personality is no longer important. However, you cannot deny that the aging mantra of personality over appearance is losing its appeal. Brushing your teeth is one of the many first steps to attaining good looks. People are highly likely to look at your mouth when meeting or making friends, observing the way you talk and laugh. Some people lose their friends just because their mouth smelled bad and their teeth were yellow. It does not take you more than two minutes every after meal to get white teeth and a fresh breath. Going to the dentist also goes a long way in making yourself presentable. Cavities and gum problems can severely affect the appearance of your teeth. Imagine your friends noticing something black or swelling in between your teeth which can be a big turn off. Luckily, dentistry has many ways of dealing with every dental problem. Not only are dentists in Colorado Springs CO concerned with healthy teeth; they also want presentable teeth. Some dentists are also practitioners of a special field called cosmetic dentistry. Just like cosmetic surgery, this field of dentistry focuses on the treatment of teeth for them to look more pleasing. Dental bleaching and teeth reshaping are some of the few services cosmetic dentists offer. Nonetheless, it is up to the patient to keep his teeth presentable. Dentists in Colorado Springs CO keep on telling their patients that oral hygiene is still the best way. The treatment applied by the dentists will wear off eventually. Brushing your teeth regularly will help keep the effects last longer than normal. Can you still choose personality over appearance? Perhaps that is still a choice everyone needs to make. But, if you want to make it big in these modern times, you have to take care of your appearance. Brushing your teeth and going to dentists in Colorado Springs CO is where good physical appearance begins. source: http://www.articlesbase.com/dental-care-articles/dental-health-the-first-step-to-attaining-good-looks-5205089.html#ixzz1XXFurOYI

Gynecomastia and How It Is Treated

3 komentar

Gynecomastia is the abnormal enlargement of the breast tissue in men. This can occur during infancy, in the teen years or in older men. This condition occurs when the gland within the breast becomes enlarged. This condition is different from the enlarged breasts found in obese men which results from deposits of fat around the breasts. In contrast, gynecomastia results from the development of the glandular tissue in the breasts.

Gynecomastia generally results from an imbalance in natural hormone levels of the male's body. Every individual has both the male hormone androgen and the female hormone estrogen, but the normal male body produces more male than female hormones. In contrast, when a male's body produces more female hormones relative to the amount of male hormones, it can cause gyneomastia. For most men, the hormones will balance naturally and the enlarged tissue will go away on its own.

There are several medical issues that can result in this condition. Men suffering from cirrhosis of the liver, kidney failure, recovering from malnutrition, suffering from certain cancers or with hyperthyroidism may also develop gynecomastia. Occasionally it may also be a side effect of prescribed medication or because of a genetic disorder.

The symptoms of gynecomastia are usually visible. One or both male breasts become enlarged and may be tender or sore to the touch. The nipples may also become enlarged and may appear swollen or puffy. It is vital to seek medical attention because there are so many possible causes for this condition.

How the condition is treated will depend upon many factors. Since it normally goes away on its own for young infants and teens no treatment may be necessary. The doctor may choose to keep younger patients under observation for a few months instead of treating them. In older patients tests need to be run to determine the cause. Undiagnosed medical issues could be to blame, and treating the underlying cause should help the breast tissue recede. In older males testosterone replacement therapies may be helpful. For severe or particularly painful cases, a doctor may prescribe medication to help block the body from producing estrogen.

For most men, gynecomastia by itself is not life threatening but many patients suffer from pain, social anxiety and embarrassment. Most often, the condition goes away in a few months. If other treatments are not successful, than surgery could be required to remove the excess tissue.

Because enlargement of the breast tissue is caused by a hormonal imbalance, it cannot be prevented. The most common cure for the condition is treating the medical issue that resulted in the imbalance.

Insomnia often happens among people undergoing stress or anxiety problems. It is characterized by difficulty in sleeping as well as other symptoms including early wake up time and uncomfortable sleep. People who work for long hours and work on night shifts have higher chances of acquiring this sleeping condition.

Although insomnia may range from short term to constant stage, other people who lack sleep every night can find solutions in different sleeping aids recommended by most experts. For those of you who encounter too many sleepless nights, try doing these techniques to have a more relaxing and peaceful sleep.

Try avoiding food and drinks with too much caffeine. Stay away from eating coffee pies, apples, and coffee drinks before going to sleep. These food and drinks contain caffeine, which helps you stay alert and awake. In order for you to have a good night sleep, try drinking a glass of cold or hot milk to put you in the sleeping mood

Always take time to search for the best pillow in the market. High-quality pillows with a soft feel give you more reasons to rest in bed. Plus, it allows you to have a more comfortable feeling while sleeping. There a variety of pillows in the market so make sure you get the best type that fits your sleeping needs. If you're a traveler, better get some traveler's pillows so you can sleep soundly while on a journey.

Select a comfortable mattress for your bed. You may have the most expensive pillow forms in your bedroom but are you sure you also have a good and comfortable mattress around? Having a cozy bed will ease your mind during bedtime. Cover your bed with dark or white linen and avoid putting bed covers in bright colors.

Warm tones immediately put you to sleep while white ones connote a clean sleeping space that helps elevate your sleeping mood. If you want, you can put decorative pillows like Asian floor pillows on your bed so you can sleep with style and added comfort.

Don't turn the TV on as you put yourself to sleep. Or better yet, don't place a TV set in your bedroom. A bedroom should always be a quiet little place for rest and not for recreational activities. You can read some books instead of watching TV. Reading books allows your mind and senses to relax so it's recommended to stack up some books on your bedside table.

Buy sleep apnea mask. This mask is specially designed to prevent snoring and obstructed breathing during sleep. If you snore during sleep or your husband's irritating snoring prevents you from getting 8 hours of sleep, you should buy this tool. It's worn as a mask and it's quite affordable. You can purchase it in medical stores or online medical shops.

Always keep your sleep apnea mask, eye covers, and other sleeping essentials in a drawer near your bed. Place it strategically near you so by the time you feel sleepy, you don't have to get up and get your sleeping tools in your closet or a drawer that's too far away from you. Getting up will wake your senses, making it difficult for you to go back to your sleeping mood.

The top tips to burn fat calories

Sabtu, 13 Agustus 2011

In order tо burn fat calories effectively, there іѕ nо excuse tо nоt to be doіng these 3 things.

#1  Drink Plenty оf Water

I know that thіѕ tip has bееn driven іnto thе ground, аnd that everу fitness expert оn the planet recommends this. But dont yоu thіnk therе mіght be a good reason fоr it? There іѕ rеally good scientific evidence thаt backs up thіs fact. It haѕ often bееn sаіd tо drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water per day for ultimate hydration. But I асtuallу belіevе you should trу to drink morе than this, and lеt mе tеll yоu why.

Your liver iѕ aсtuallу а fat burning organ. When уоu get de-hydrated, уour kidneys gеt overloaded and they stop functioning the waу they аrе supposed to. This cаusеs уоur liver to havе tо takе оver some оf the responsibilities оf the kidneys. In turn, this cauѕes your fat burning to literally be shut down. Drinking plenty of water will сauѕe your body to bе hydrated properly, аnd will alѕo make уou feel good too.

#2  Include in Your Diet a Good Amount of Protein

I dont wаnt tо gеt into а lesson in science here, but your body defіnitеly nееds thе right amounts оf protein. In the days оf thе caveman, the reason they survived sо long wаѕ bеcаuѕе theу had a lot оf readily аvaіlablе meat. They ate seasonally and dіd nоt hаve all the аvаilable carbohydrates like we hаve today. These include potatoes, rice, and оther vеrу starchy carbohydrates.

Basically, protein iѕ made up of ѕеvеrаl types оf amino acids. Just lіke а house іѕ built up frоm bricks or wood, protein іѕ built the ѕame way, frоm a vеrу solid foundation. Each аnd еvery cell in уоur body cоntainѕ amino acids. Its vеrу important tо havе а diet that іs rich in complete proteins.

These include, but are nоt limited to, eggs, meats, fish and poultry. These foods соntain thе 8 essential proteins our bodies nееd tо manufacture аll of the оthеr amino acids needed for proper muscle growth, hormone аnd enzyme formation. So to sum it uр wіthоut boring уоu аnу further, protein іs good!

#3  Never eat the same foods or sаme amount of carbohydrates everу single day

Contrary to popular belief, our bodies аre not the well-oiled machines thаt weve beеn told that thеу were. By feeding оur bodies thе ѕame exact things еаch аnd evеrу day, thіѕ leads us to practically eat thе same amount оf calories everyday also. This actuаllу works agaіnst the scientific approach, whіch іs to change things up.

Yes іts verу true. By putting оur bodies іntо shock, we асtually set it uр tо crave whаt we rеallу wаnt , whіch іs good tasting foods! This technique hаѕ bееn proven tо work to build strength аnd muscle bу exercising. The sаme holds true wіth losing weight.

What Can Green Lipped Mussel Oil Do for Health?

Jumat, 12 Agustus 2011

The American Heart Association estimates that American are getting only about 7% of the omega -3 fatty acids that they need.  In order to remedy this, the association suggests that we up the amount of fish in our diet in order to boost the amount of the fatty acids that we consume in order to decrease the chance of a heart attack and stroke.

But it is not only our cardiovascular heath that we should be worried about.  Omega-3 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory; their role in our body is to take away pain, particularly in our joints.  If we can't, or don't want to, change our diets, a joint supplement is necessary.  The green lipped mussel oil health benefits are a long list, the primary one being its anti-inflammatory properties.

Green lipped mussels are a miracle food, and scientists are only beginning to unravel its potential.  The mussels are unique in many ways.  It is one of the worlds largest shellfish, it has a beautiful polychromatic shell (with green along the lips), and it is one of the most nutritious sea or plant foods in the world.

Though research into the health benefits of the powdered supplement is limited, research into the green lipped mussel oil health benefits is quite extensive.  Australians and New Zealanders have recognized the mussels potential for decades and have been performing studies.

At first, they were looking into the oils potential in treating cancer patients, but when patients starting reporting relief from pain and stiffness, the research turned towards the mussels anti-inflammatory qualities.  Since then, green lipped mussels have shown to relieve arthritis in test rats, improve the mobility and happiness of dogs with arthritic conditions, and reduce the inflammation in the joints of humans.

With the help of the internet and nutrition preserving manufacturing techniques, Green lipped mussels are quickly becoming a global phenomenon, not because of hype, but because of real health giving effects.

Green lipped mussel oil healthbenefits continue.  They include improved function of the immune and nervous systems, their anti-inflammatory qualities help with asthma and IBS sufferers.  With good physical health comes good mental health, being a more active person wards off mental diseases such as depression, and being more active, getting your heart rate up everyday, will extend the longevity and happiness of your life.

It all starts by reducing the pain we feel in our joints and muscles by upping the anti-inflammatories in our body.  Start taking joint health supplements for better physical, and therefore mental, health. source:

Many newspapers covered the report produced by The Lancet and University College London (UCL) on managing the health effects of climate change, including food shortages, heat waves and increased threat of tropical diseases such as malaria.
The conclusions of this report are valid and should raise debate on some of the challenging and increasingly urgent questions regarding health and climate change. The report took a multidisciplinary approach with input from doctors, engineers, scientists and philosophers, among others. The hope is that the movement will lead to co-ordinated thinking and action across governments, international agencies, non-governmental organisations and academic institutions. A framework is suggested for this, along with an action plan. The authors say that these actions must also sit alongside a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
The lead author, Professor Anthony Costello, said, "The big message of this report is that climate change is a health issue affecting billions of people, not just an environmental issue about polar bears and deforestation."

WHERE DID THE STORY COME FROM?

This is the final report of a year-long project carried out by The Lancet and the University College London (UCL) Institute for Global Health. The UCL team was led by Professor Anthony Costello and included contributions from many disciplines including engineers, political scientists, lawyers, geographers, anthropologists, economists and philosophers. The report was published in The Lancet and is described as the first in a series of articles aimed at addressing neglected areas in health that demand a complex interdisciplinary analysis and response.

WHAT IS THE REPORT ABOUT?

The report is about the broad effects of climate change on health. The team that produced it concentrated on six areas: patterns of disease and mortality, food security, water and sanitation, shelter and human settlements, extreme events and population migration.
The authors looked at how the patterns of disease and variations in basic human needs are spread unequally and how any current inequities between rich and poor countries or people might get worse with climate change.
The introduction describes the science behind climate change. It explains that the temperature of the earth is determined by the balance between energy input from the sun and its loss back into space. It describes the effect of human industrial activity, saying that, of about 900 billion tonnes of CO2 released into the atmosphere, about 450 billion tonnes has stayed in the atmosphere. It mentions findings by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which looked at 23 atmosphere–ocean general circulation models to predict future temperature rises. The IPCC reported that the average global surface temperature could rise between 1.1°C and 6.4°C by 2100, with best estimates between 1.8°C and 4.0°C.
The authors call for a public health movement to highlight the threat of climate change as a health issue, saying that health concerns are crucial because they attract political attention.
Three levels of action are proposed. First, that policies must be adopted to reduce carbon emissions and to increase carbon biosequestration (absorption) through reforestation and improved agricultural practices. Second, that action should be taken on the events linking climate change to disease. Third, appropriate public health systems should be put into place to deal with adverse outcomes.

WHAT DOES THE REPORT SAY ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON HEALTH?

The report says that if steps are not taken to counteract climate change, it will have its greatest effect on the poorest people in the world. These people have least access to the world's resources and have contributed least to its cause. The authors say that, at present, despite global health improvements, 10 million children continue to die each year. Also, over 200 million children under five do not develop fully, 800 million people go to bed each night hungry and 1,500 million people do not have access to clean drinking water. They quote the World Health Organization (WHO) Commission on Social Determinants of Health, which in 2008 reported that a girl born today can expect to live up to 80 years if she is born in some countries but less than 45 years if she is born in others.
The authors also highlight the most serious threats to human health. These are economic crises, pandemics, poverty, and violence and conflict.
The report points out that raising health status and reducing health inequity will only be achieved by lifting billions out of poverty. They caution that, initially, this may make climate change worse as carbon emissions increase in the poorest countries. They say that rich countries, the major producers of global carbon, also need to reduce their output massively.

WHAT ARE THE KEY CHALLENGES?

The researchers looked at six aspects that connect climate change with adverse health outcomes:

  • the changing patterns of disease and mortality,
  • food,
  • water and sanitation,
  • shelter and human settlements,
  • extreme events, and
  • population and migration.
They then considered each of these in relation to providing better information, addressing poverty and inequity, using and providing incentives for technology, and starting socio-political or institutional change. One key challenge they mention for many countries is that more investment and resources are required to strengthen existing health systems.

WHAT DOES THE REPORT CONCLUDE?

The report points out that policy responses to the public health implications of climate change will have to be formulated in conditions of uncertainty for different countries, and that this will require the collection of essential data. The authors say there is a particularly urgent need to generate evidence on health effects and adaptation for a more severe (3-4°C) rise in temperature.
They call for a public health movement that frames the threat of climate change as a health issue. They say that, apart from a dedicated few, health professionals have come late to the climate change debate, but health concerns are crucial because they attract political attention.
The lead author, Professor Anthony Costello, has said, "We believe that all the main players – health, political, scientific, technological and civil society must come together. We've laid out a framework for action and we have called for a collation of information on the health effects of climate change leading up to a major international conference in the next two years. We especially want representation from poorer nations. This conference would set out some clear indicators, targets and accountability mechanisms. We need a new 21st-century public health movement to deal with climate change."

Memory types

Memory is the ability to register, retain and recall a wide range of information such as thoughts, sensations, experiences and knowledge. Some aspects of memory remain relatively intact with age while others decline.
Short-term memory consists of two components called primary and working memory. Primary memory involves holding small amounts of information for a short amount of time, such as remembering a new phone number long enough to write it down. Primary memory remains relatively intact with age. By contrast, working memory, which requires briefly holding and manipulating information, declines. For instance, this ability is required to repeat digits in reverse (e.g., 4, 9, 7 backwards is 7, 9, 4).
Semantic memory is knowledge of facts and meanings of words. This type of memory does not require a reference to time. Generally, decline in semantic memory is negligible.
The type of memory that deals with remembering how to perform a motor skill such as riding a bicycle is called procedural memory. Overall, decline in this area is minimal.
Long-term, or episodic, memory is a unique form of recall because it deals with acquiring and retrieving information from a particular place at a certain time. Remembering what you had for breakfast today or what you did on your 21st birthday are examples of episodic memory. Episodic memory peaks in young adulthood, so it is not uncommon for the elderly to remember information from that period of their lives. Long-term memory declines slowly over time.
Memory problems associated with aging are likely due to difficulty with both encoding (registering the message into memory) and retrieval. Older adults are generally less precise in encoding new information, and retrieval is slowed. Overall, cognitive decline in the elderly is subtle and more evident in laboratory tests, in which the limits are tested beyond what is typically required for everyday functioning. Humans are remarkable in their ability to adapt and compensate for deficits. Further, evidence shows that cognitive training can conserve and improve memory, concentration and problem solving. In the largest study of its kind, independent adults aged 65 to 94 who had no cognitive problems received training for two hours a week for five weeks on tasks related to everyday living. The intervention resulted in improvement in memory, concentration and problem-solving skills. These findings hold the promise that training applied to specific tasks such as using medication and managing finances may benefit older adults.
Gradual physical and cognitive decline is inevitable with age. The health care provider must keep this in mind in order to accurately assess and identify problems in each individual. Likewise, each elderly patient also must be assessed for strengths that, when tapped, can promote health, satisfaction and happiness in later years.

The Experts Advice on Treating Hives in Children

0 komentar
Hives is basically an allergic reaction in which pale or red colored velts appear on the skin. The allergy bears a striking resemblance to a mosquito bite and keeps on changing in shape, size and even locations. Its symptoms are more likely to occur in children than in adults and can cause the victim a great deal of discomfort and irritation. And even though it is harmless, excessive scratching of the affected part can lead to rashes or cuts. So it is advised that you treat hives at the earliest. In this article, we give tips on treating children who suffer from hives symptoms.

The actual cause that triggers hives is yet unclear. However it is believed that allergic reactions to certain kinds of food and medications can lead to the condition. Tight fitting clothes, temperature changes and unhygienic conditions are also believed to cause its onset. Most hive symptoms are known to disappear of their own accord but in a few it worsens leaving the person with severe itchiness.

So these are some of the things that you can do to counter hives: Keep note of your child's diet and observe if eating certain kinds of food is leading to such a reaction. Allergy testing at a reputed clinic can also help you decipher the cause behind your child's symptoms. Hives is believed to be caused by the chemical histamine, so the logical sense is to treat it with anti-histamine medications. These include treating them with medications such as Loratidine, Benadryl or Claritin. However it is recommended that you take these only after having consulted with an expert.

Homemade remedies can also help you to get rid of hives. You can brew leaves and bark of rosemary leaves or red Alder and serve it as tea to the child. The disease can leave the child at his tether's end, so make him or her as comfortable as possible. Make them lie in bed, cover the child with comfortable sheets and regulate the temperature of the room because hives symptoms can aggravate if it is too hot or too cold. The child should also be made to wear loose comfortable clothing, preferably cottons that can easily absorb sweat from the body. Bathing the child under a cool shower will also provide them with much needed relief. Also prevent the child from scratching too much because it may lead to the allergy spreading to other parts of the body.

If there are no signs of improvement even after 2-3 weeks, then seek the guidance of medical expert. Hives in general doesn't require treatment but if ever your child contracts one, then follow these tips to eliminate the problem.
